Interfaith Prayers for Healing

Interfaith Prayer for Healing

Providing spiritual care is being responsive to the religious needs of patients, families and those you serve. This post is a sample of well-known prayers for healing from a diverse group of religions. They are from our Interfaith book of Comfort & Healing , which is organized by topic, and many are also in the Interfaith Prayer Book, which is organized by religion.

Bahai Faith
Thy Name is my healing, O my God, and remembrance of Thee is my remedy. Nearness to Thee is my hope, and love for Thee is my companion. Thy mercy to me is my healing and my succor in both this world and the world to come. Thou, verily, art the All-Bountiful, the All-Knowing, the All-Wise.

Buddhism
May all beings everywhere be plagued with sufferings of body and mind quickly be freed from their illnesses. May those frightened cease to be afraid, and may those bound be free. May the power-less find power, and may people think of befriending on another. May those who find themselves in trackless, fearful wilderness – the children, the aged, the unprotected – be guarded by beneficent celestials, and may they swiftly attain enlightment.

Christianity
Lord, look upon me with eyes of mercy, may your healing hand rest upon me, may your life-giving powers flow into every cell of my body and into the depths of my soul cleansing, purifying, restoring me to wholeness and strength for service in your kingdom.

Hinduism
O almightly god, may my tongue be ever-blessed with the power of speech, may my nostrils be blessed with healthy and vital air, may my eyes be blessed with the perfect power of sight, ears with the perfect power of hearing, arms with strength, legs with vitality. May all the parts of my body be in perfect health . . .

Sikhism
Your Name, O Transcendent Lord, is Ambrosial Nectar; who-ever meditates on it, lives. One who is blessed with God’s Grace –  that humble servant becomes immaculate and pure. Obstacles are removed, and all pains are eliminated . . .

Sufi
Beloved Lord, Almighty God! Through the rays of the sun, through the waves of the air, through the All-pervading Life in space, purify and revivify me, and  will pray and heal my body, heart, and soul.

Some of you are on the front lines providing care. Some of you are sheltering in place. Regardless of what role God has called you to play in during this time, don’t forget to take care of yourself.
