When you are working to make the world a better place, isn’t it nice to know that you are promised Divine Assistance?
The first chapter of our “Interfaith Resources Book of Comfort and Healing” focuses on the promises of aid that can be found in the sacred scriptures of every major religion. In context, it is about receiving help in dealing with illness, but the same promises apply to all of us in our daily efforts.
Here are ten short quotations that assure us that help is available when we need it.
I lift up my eyes to the hills—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip—He who watches over you will not slumber; Indeed, he who watches over [you] will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over you—The Lord is your shade at your right hand. The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm—he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forever evermore. — Judaism
O thou who art turning thy face toward God! Close thine eyes to all things else, and open them to the realm of the All-Glorious. Ask whatsoever thou wishest of Him alone; seek whatsoever thou seekest from Him alone. With a look He granteth a hundred thousand hopes, with a glance He healeth a hundred thousand incurable ills, with a glimpse He layeth balm on every wound, with a nod He freeth the hearts from the shackles of grief. — Bahá’í Faith
…what can the poor creature do, if the Lord does not give him assistance? — Sikhism
I answer the prayer of the suppliant when he crieth unto Me. So let them hear My call and let them trust in Me, in order that they may be led aright. — Islam
Night and day, meditate in remembrance on the One who will be your Help and Support in the end. — Sikhism
The Lord Who is self radiant, existed even before the creation of the universe. He is the only blissful Master of the world. He sustains the earth, the sun, the moon and all the planets. We adore Him with fervent devotion. — Hinduism
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. — Christianity
Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light. — Christianity
Sing the Glories of God each and every day; your afflictions shall be dispelled, and you shall be saved, my humble friend. — Sikhism
Remember ye implored the assistance of your Lord, and He answered you: “I will assist you with a thousand of the angels, ranks on ranks.” — Islam
