Who am I not to change the world?

It’s a powerful question—and a wonderful reminder that each of us has the ability to make a difference.

The inspiration for this message goes back more than 50 years. When I was a young person attending a religious conference, I heard a speaker say, “One soul can illumine an entire continent.”

Those words stayed with me. Right then and there, I made a personal commitment to try to be one of those souls—to do what I could to make the world a better place. I’ve been trying to live up to that commitment ever since!

Then, last summer, I was walking through an arts fair when I spotted this phrase on a tile: “Who am I not to change the world?” It struck a deep chord. I knew I wanted to share it, so I created a T-shirt and a button featuring the message.

But I also wanted something I could wear every day—a little reminder to keep me AWARE of what really matters. That’s when I decided to make an awareness bracelet.
