Coexist

Celebrating Religious Tolerance and Respect

The Coexist design has become a widely recognized symbol of religious tolerance, cooperation, and mutual respect. By combining symbols associated with different religious and philosophical traditions into a single word, it delivers a powerful message: people with different beliefs can live together in peace and understanding.

The design also incorporates the ecology symbol, extending its message of respect and interdependence to include our planet. Just as people of different faiths share the world, we all share a responsibility to care for the Earth and protect the environment we depend on.

The Meaning Behind the Coexist Design

Each letter in COEXIST incorporates a symbol representing a different faith or concept:

C — Islam: The crescent and star

O — Buddhism: The eight-spoked Dharma wheel, representing the Buddhist path

E — Ecology: The ecology symbol, representing our connection to the natural world

X — Judaism: The Star of David

I — The Bahá’í Faith: The five-pointed star

S — Taoism: The yin-yang symbol, representing complementary forces

T — Christianity: The cross

Together, these symbols create a visual reminder that people can honor their own beliefs while respecting the beliefs of others. The design celebrates the possibility of a world where religious diversity inspires understanding rather than division.
